2010 Wrap Up
On the 27th -29th August the 2010 Matthews Tyre Centre Winter Classic Trial and Tour was run. With a combination of old and new the event was aimed at being a fun and enjoyable weekend. As my first event directing it was certainly a learning experience. While it was very muddy out at the club I was pleased the event was that weekend as the following weekend saw many of the places we went to under water including Clunes.

Friday night again was the ‘taster’ at the showgrounds showcasing the cars under lights, and was the first year we used electronic timing thanks to the fantastic work of Rod Hall and Dave Stewart. Peter Ellis’s commentary was great once again and entertained the spectators. Nathan Sanders won the ‘hot lap’ with Ross Stapleton which was impressive (check it out on you tube!)
Saturday the competitors negotiated their way to Cape Clear where morning tea was held at the pub before heading back to Ballarat for a series of driving tests including Old Creswick Rd, CITS, FMP, Bus Park and Yarramie Crt. In the evening dinner was enjoyed by all at the club rooms and competitors were able to see some footage from Friday night.
Sunday morning the trail and tour navigated towards Clunes for the ‘uphill driving tests’ (NOT hillclimb). After two runs an impressive morning tea was held at Neighbourhood house and the CWA followed by another two tests up Scenic drive. Glen Latter attempted to literally fly up the hill much to the distress of his co-driver. The afternoon again was again driving tests at FMP, bus park and Wendouree Netball Centre.
All in all the event was successful and I was very humbled by the positive feedback I have received. The organising committee did a fantastic job as well as all of the officials that helped to make the event a successful one. I have listed below many people I wish to acknowledge and thank , and I am very sorry if I have missed anyone (you are no less important!) I wish to make a special shout out to Clare Bennett though whom without her assistance and support the event would not have happened.
